BIBLE REFERENCES: John 4:48, Matthew 27, 1 Corinthians 15, Acts 2:22

As we reflect on the theme “God of Signs and Wonders,” we’re reminded of God’s power and majesty. In Acts 2:22, Peter speaks of Jesus, “a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs.” Today, we’ll explore God’s signs and wonders, the significance of Pentecost, and the importance of humility.

I. God’s Signs and Wonders

God’s signs and wonders demonstrate His power and love. In John 4:48, Jesus says, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” Throughout history, God has performed miracles, healings, and wonders, revealing His glory and majesty. Let’s recall some examples:

  • Jesus’ miracles, such as healing the blind and feeding the 5,000
  • The wonders of the Exodus, such as the parting of the Red Sea
  • The signs and wonders in the early church, such as the healing of the lame man in Acts 3

II. Pentecost: A Turning Point

Pentecost marks a significant turning point in biblical history. In Acts 2, the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples, empowering them for ministry. This event signifies the beginning of the church’s mission to spread the gospel. Let’s reflect on the significance of Pentecost:

  • The outpouring of the Holy Spirit
  • The empowerment of believers for ministry
  • The birth of the church

III. Humility: Recognizing God’s Gifts

Humility is essential for recognizing God’s signs and wonders. As the apostle Paul asks, “What do you have that you weren’t given?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). Let’s look at examples of humility in the Bible:

  • David, who acknowledged God’s anointing and guidance (1 Samuel 16:13)
  • Joseph, who recognized God’s sovereignty in his life (Genesis 45:5)
  • Jephthah, who humbly sought God’s guidance (Judges 11:30-31)
  • Job, who humbled himself before God (Job 42:2-3)

Conclusion

The God of signs and wonders is still working today. Let’s recognize His power and majesty, and respond with humility, acknowledging the gifts and blessings He gives us. May we be empowered by the Holy Spirit, just like the disciples at Pentecost, to spread the gospel and demonstrate God’s love to the world.
