Introduction:

The Christian life is a journey of continual learning and surrender. From birth to our final breath, God designed us to be teachable people, guided not by our own instincts or emotions, but by His Word and Spirit.

In Psalm 27:11, the psalmist cries out:

“Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies.”

This prayer reveals a deep hunger for divine instruction, clarity, and protection. God’s ways are not hidden; they are revealed in His Word. However, only the humble and teachable can walk in them.

key points:

1.Being Teachable Is a Lifelong Calling

  • Teaching does not end at salvation; it continues throughout life.
  • Humility keeps us teachable; pride blocks instruction.
  • God teaches those who acknowledge Him as their light and salvation (Psalm 27:1).

‎2.God Teaches Through His Word and Spirit

  • “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.” (Psalm 32:8)
  • God’s Word is the primary channel of His instruction.
  • The more the Word dwells in us, the more clearly God guides us.

‎3.The Word of God Cleanses and Transforms

  • “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.” (Psalm 119:9)
  • The Word washes, corrects, heals, and renews us.
  • No life is beyond cleansing when submitted to God’s Word.

4.Teachability Protects Us from Spiritual Enemies

  • The “enemies” mentioned are not just people but spiritual forces: sin, poverty, shame, confusion, addiction, and self-destruction.
  • God’s instruction prevents avoidable pitfalls and spiritual damage.
  • Walking in God’s ways frustrates the plans of the enemy.

5.God’s Ways Are Not Grievous but Life-Giving

  • “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.” (1 John 5:3)
  • God’s instructions are designed to bless, protect, and preserve us.
  • Obedience brings peace, stability, and fruitfulness.

6.Being Led on a Plain Path Brings Peace and Favor

  • “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
  • A plain path is a life of clarity, order, and righteousness.
  • God is not the author of confusion; His leading brings light and direction.

7.Walking in the Spirit Overcomes the Flesh

  • “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)
  • The fruit of the Spirit becomes evident in a teachable life: love, joy, peace, self-control, and righteousness.
  • A Spirit-led life is balanced, healthy, and victorious.

8.God Draws the Teachable to Himself

  • “No man can come to me, except the Father… draw him.” (John 6:44)
  • The desire to learn God’s ways is itself a work of grace.
  • Responding to God’s drawing leads to transformation and restoration.

CONCLUSION.

To ask God to teach us is to surrender control of our lives. A teachable heart allows God’s Word to become flesh in us—changing our conduct, renewing our minds, and aligning our paths with His will.

God’s ways lead to life, peace, and victory. When we choose to be instructed by Him, He leads us on a plain path where confusion, shame, and destruction lose their power.
