Introduction:

Our spiritual journey is not sustained by a single moment of salvation but by a continuous, daily infilling of God’s power through the Holy Spirit. Complacency is our enemy; fresh anointing is our necessity.

The Pattern: Jesus Modeled a Spirit-Filled Life. Jesus Himself, though fully God, depended on the Holy Spirit’s power for His earthly ministry.

  • At His Baptism: The Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove, empowering Him for His mission (Matthew 3:16-17).
  • In His Ministry: He regularly withdrew to lonely places to pray and be refilled (Luke 5:16), showing that even the Son of God needed continual connection to the Father’s power.

The Promise: The Power is Available to Us.

The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead and empowered the early church is available to every believer.

  • At Pentecost: The disciples were transformed from fearful followers into bold witnesses, performing miracles, signs, and wonders (Acts 2).
  • For Us Today: We have the promise that “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). This power is not for our comfort but for our mission.

The Problem: Complacency Quenches the Fire.

We cannot live on yesterday’s anointing. Like King Saul, we should be distressed at the thought of the Spirit’s power departing from us (1 Samuel). We must constantly ask: “Is the fire of God still burning in me?”

The Practice: How to Stir Up the Holy Spirit.

It is our responsibility to keep the fire burning. We stir up the gift of God within us by:

  • Asking Passionately: We must thirst for the living water, asking daily to be filled (Luke 11:13). Don’t just sip; drink deeply until rivers of living water flow from you (John 7:37-39).
  • Praying Continually: Maintain an open line of communication with God through unceasing prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
  • Focusing on the Mission: Keep your eyes on the vision of the harvest. A burning heart for the lost will drive you to pray for more power to be a world-changer and an agent of revival.
  • Feeding on the Word: Listen to and study the Word of God to fuel your faith (Romans 10:17).

A Prayer for Fresh Filling:

Heavenly Father,

Anoint me with fresh oil. Baptize me with fresh fire.

I thirst for Your living water; let it overflow from me.

Grant me the power to win souls and to be a life-changer for Your glory.

Make me a ready and empowered agent of the coming revival.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
