Sermon Notes

Psalm 63:1–3 – “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee…” Luke 12:15 – “A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Matthew 6:33 – “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness...”

1. The Journey of Jesus – Rejection Before Glory

From Luke 12:12, we reflect on how even Jesus was resisted in fulfilling His mission. Yet, He remained focused. Eventually, those who rejected Him came to celebrate Him. The lesson: no matter where you’ve faced rejection, you will be celebrated if you stay faithful. Like Jesus, your assignment is not in vain.

2. What Are You Pursuing?

We were challenged to ask ourselves a critical question:
What is your ultimate pursuit?
Many pursue money, fame, pleasure, or possessions—but David’s ultimate pursuit in Psalm 63 was intimacy with God. He longed for God even in dry places. He thirsted for God above all else.

3. You Were Made for Fellowship

God created man to fellowship with Him. After the fall, man’s heart remains restless without God. The emptiness people feel cannot be filled by worldly things—it is only satisfied by pursuing the presence of God. David’s desire to see God’s glory and power in the sanctuary shows the kind of hunger we are called to.

4. Misplaced Pursuits Bring Emptiness

Many today pursue degrees, wealth, status, or even relationships, neglecting the pursuit of God. While such things aren’t bad in themselves, they become dangerous when they displace God in our hearts. Just like the rich fool in Luke 12, those who trust in possessions without acknowledging God are chasing vanity.

5. Learn from David, Joseph, and Jesus

  • David longed for God more than anything else.

  • Joseph held onto his vision through hardship, betrayal, and false accusations—yet he fulfilled his destiny because he never lost sight of God.

  • Jesus, though He endured shame, beating, and rejection, kept His eyes on the joy ahead—our salvation. He is the ultimate example of someone whose pursuit never wavered.

Key Takeaways:

  • Let God become your highest pursuit.
  • Stay consistent even in waiting; the vision will speak in its time (Habakkuk 2:3).
  • Worldly things are temporary, but your relationship with God has eternal value.
  • Let go of the “garments” of sin, distraction, and covetousness.
  • Return to your first love and rekindle your spiritual fire.

Prayer Points:

  • “Lord, rekindle the fire of the Holy Spirit in me.”
  • “Let me thirst for You again like I once did.”
  • “Help me make You my ultimate pursuit above all else.”
  • “Restore my passion and align me with Your will for my life.”
