‎Introduction:

The service begins with thanksgiving and praise:

  • Thanking God for life, sound health, daily provision, mercy, and protection through the first ten months of the year.
  • Acknowledging that we are alive and in church not by our power, but purely by God’s grace and the leading of His Spirit.
  • Recognizing that many are in pain, in hospital beds, or in difficult situations. We are not mocking them; we are glorifying God’s mercy over us.

From this place of gratitude, we look at the life of Jacob in Genesis 30. After years of serving Laban and seeing God bless Laban through him, Jacob asks a crucial question:

“And now, when shall I provide for mine own house also?” (Genesis 30:30)

This question becomes both a practical and spiritual challenge to us:

  • Practically: When will I stop building only for others and start building, by God’s grace, for my own house?
  • Spiritually: When will I be serious about preparing my eternal “house” – my soul and my eternity with God?

1. God’s Faithfulness in Our Journey

  • Jacob left home as a fugitive, after deceiving Esau, yet God met him on the way (Bethel) and gave him a divine encounter and promise.
  • In the same way, many of us did not start our journey perfectly, but God in His mercy has kept us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).
  • God has carried us through the months of this year; we are standing only because of His grace, mercy and faithfulness, not our wisdom or strength.

‎2.Don’t Put Your Ultimate Trust in Man

  • Laban is a picture of human manipulation and selfishness:
    • He changed Jacob’s agreement multiple times.
    • He used Jacob’s labor to grow his own wealth.
  • Lesson:
    • Don’t expect too much from man – not from pastor, spouse, friends, or employers.
    • People are human and prone to error; only God is absolutely faithful.
    • Even when people try to use or limit us, God’s plan cannot be stopped by their schemes.

‎3.“When Shall I Provide for My Own House Also?” – Taking Responsibility

  • After 14 years of labor for his wives, and more years of service, Jacob wakes up to the reality:
    • “I have worked and made Laban rich. But what of my own household?”
  • Application for us:
    • Don’t live life only building other people’s dreams while neglecting what God has entrusted to you – your family, calling, spiritual life.
    • There is a time to say, “By God’s wisdom, I must now build what God has assigned to me.”
    • Jacob did not just complain; he received divine wisdom (the speckled and spotted animals strategy) and allowed God to establish him.

4. Modern Slavery & The Need for God’s Intervention

  • The sermon compares Jacob’s slavery under Laban to modern forms of slavery:
    • Heavy rent, multiple jobs, pressure that keeps people working hard yet never truly free.
  • We pray and believe that:
    • God will break every yoke of financial and systemic bondage.
    • Our children will not remain in cycles of poverty; they will be home-owners and kingdom influencers by God’s grace.
  • As with Israel in Egypt, when God said, “Let my people go”, Pharaoh increased their workload, but God still delivered them.
  • When you try to walk into your God-given freedom, the enemy may fight harder, but God will fight for you.

5. Preparing for Our Heavenly Home

  • Jacob’s question can be read spiritually: “When will I prepare for my eternal house?”
  • We are strangers and pilgrims on this earth (Hebrews 11:13–16).
  • Jesus said:
    • “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:1–3)
  • True rest is not here on earth; it is in heavenly Jerusalem.
    • No matter how comfortable life becomes here, this is not our final home.
  • Like the patriarchs of faith, we must desire a better country – a heavenly one – and live with eternity in view.

6. Laying Up Treasure in Heaven

  • Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19–21).
  • Practical ways to lay up heavenly treasure:
    • Generosity: Giving to those in need, supporting the work of God.
    • Obedience & holiness: Living in righteousness, not compromise.
    • Serving others: Using your gifts to bless God’s people.
      • We came into this world with nothing and will leave with nothing.
      • Our true treasure is what we have invested into eternity.
      •

7. Living Ready – The Wise Virgins

  • Like the five wise virgins (Matthew 25:1–13), we must keep our lamps burning and our oil ready.
  • Some say, “They’ve been saying Jesus is coming for over 2,000 years.” But He will surely come.
  • Readiness includes:
    • Repentance and genuine salvation.
    • Daily walk with God, not just Sunday religion.
    • Being doers of the Word, not hearers only.

8. Doing the Will of the Father, Not Just Church Activity

  • Jesus warned:
    • “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father…” (Matthew 7:21–23)
  • Many will say, “We prophesied, we cast out devils, we did miracles,” yet Jesus will say, “I never knew you.”
  • God is looking for people who are:
    • Faithful in secret, not just impressive in public.
    • Obedient to His will, not just busy with religious activity.

CONCLUSION.

Jacob’s life shows us:

  • God can transform a deceiver into a carrier of covenant blessing.
  • Even under unfair treatment and manipulation, God’s purpose stands.
  • There comes a time when a child of God must rise and say:
    • “I will no longer live in spiritual or practical slavery.”
    • “By God’s grace, I will build what He has called me to build.”
    • “I will prepare for my house here on earth in responsibility, and my house in heaven through a holy, surrendered life.”

We must:

  • Remember we are pilgrims, not permanent residents here.
  • Live with eternity in mind, correcting our ways, our relationships, and our priorities.
  • Trust that the same God who delivered Israel and established Jacob will also establish us, our children and grandchildren, and finally welcome us home saying,
    • “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
